First Baptist Church was organized in 1812. It separated from The First Baptist Church (white) that year because,
as one brother put it "We had to wait until the whites finished praying before we could pray".
The Church is on the historical register. It is located on theCapital Square at 101 South Wilmington Street.
It has a predominantly black congregation and have many members of all races on the roll.
The door of the church is open to all Christian people of all races.
